Reports suggest that Disney has pu-lled the plug on any notion that Johnny Depp could return for another outing as Captain Jack Sparrow in a future P!rates of the Caribbean movie.
The Hollywood Reporter cla!ms that whilst the hugely successful franchise’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer was keen for Depp to reprise his role, the House of Mouse ‘ba-lked’ at the idea because of the potential da-mage that it could do to their family-friendly image.
Depp recently lost a da-maging civil case aga!nst The Sun after they published a headline calling him a ‘wife-be-ater’.As well as losing that case, and a significant amount of money in the process, Depp was also removed from his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Be-asts and Where To Find Them movie series.
However, it now looks very unlikely that he will feature in any capacity in any films going forward, even – as had been suggested – like a cameo to hand over the re!ns to Margot Robbie.
The project featuring Robbie, as well as Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, is thought to be a complete reboot and is completely separate from another P!rates film in the works featuring Ted Elliot and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.
Last month, more than 350,000 people signed a petition to bring Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow, although that now seems as if it won’t be happening. The petition read: “Johnny Depp has been out recently as Captain Jack Sparrow. One of the reasons is his personal issues as well.
“He has been playing this role since 2003 when we first saw him arriving at the Port Royal in his boat with that epic background music playing.”But can you imagine someone else portraying this instead of him? Or no Jack Sparrow at all?
“Disney is rebooting Dead Men Tell No Tales because of its box office but don’t they know that without Johnny Depp or Jack Sparrow they will sink, they will never be able to reach that horizon they are looking for.
“Even if it means nothing to you but please, sign this petition for the ones who REALLY want Johnny Depp as their Captain of the Black Pearl!”They have to bring him back to rule the seas again or we will never watch any P!rates of the Caribbean movie without our Captain.”
It’s not all been bad news for Depp though. Despite being removed from the Fantastic Be-ast franchise, he managed to earn a whole heap of money for the week’s work that he’d already done on the project. That’s because he had a ‘pay-or-play contract’ that means that even if the film doesn’t get made – or he doesn’t appear – he gets his full salary.Johnny will be fine.
